Improve cycling, spring life and overall operation with the best of both worlds-the long lasting flat-wire spring and a precision machined full length guide rod.
The Flat Wire Full Length Guide Rod and plug replaces your stock recoil spring guide and plug on full size bushing barrel 1911's without any pistol modifications. Assembly and disassembly are the same as with stock components but a bushing wrench may be required. The hardened stainless steel rod has a hole for simple pin-style takedown using a small nail or bent paperclip.
Note: We recommend using our #22 or #22P Barrel Bushing Wrench with this product.
*For use with flat wire recoil springs only-not appropriate for standard round wire springs.
CAUTION: Safety glasses should be worn at all times when replacing or working with firearm springs. Failure to follow this safety precaution could result in bodily injury.

This is the first thing I put in my new 1911 pistols along with a 17 pound flat wire recoil spring. Great upgrade, runs smooth, reliable.

I have purchased 3 of these guide rods along with Wilson Combat flat wire recoil springs. One went into a government Springfield Armory stainless Range Officer 9mm with 13 lb spring (I sold this gun to a friend), one in a government Sig Sauer TACOPS 1911 10mm with 24 lb spring, and one in a government Dan Wesson Vigil 9mm with 13 lb spring. I don't have to use a bushing wrench and I grab the slide for a press check, therefore I don't have the usual complaints about a full length guide rod. Needless to say they work perfectly.

I have this guide rod coupled with Wilson flat wire springs in 5 of my 1911s ranging from 9mm, 10mm, and 45. Couldn’t be happier with these things. Do they reduce recoil? Not that I’ve noticed. But their massively extended service life makes all the difference. Standard springs need to be replaced every 1,000 to 4,000 rounds, but these flat wire springs are good for 15,000+ rounds. Most people won’t put 15,000 rounds through their pistol in their lifetime. What more needs be said?

|Bent after 300 rounds||2/15/2021|
I used this kit for my Sig full size .45 .I used the 17 lb spring as recommended. I shot about 300 rounds at a tactical pistol course, using 230 Gr FMJ. I didn't notice much change in recoil from my original half length guide rod. Near the end of the course the Sig was having issues getting back into full battery. I thought maybe it was getting gummed up or needed more lube. When I broke it down I noticed the full length had bent. Not worth the money. Replaced original rod and spring, and everything is fine. Waste of money.
|Glad this kit has a hole in the guide rod||9/26/2020|
I bought a Wilson standard FLGR a long time ago before they released the flat wire version. That one didn't have a hole for a take down tool, aka paper clip. Because of this, I had to take it down the standard way using a bushing wrench. I like to take down my 1911s by taking the slide off first then removing the guide rod and the old one doesn't allow me to do this. I gave this one a shot in my CQB Light Rail and lo and behold, taking it down slide off first works great. The provided takedown "tool", which looks like a nail cut in half, is pretty crappy to be honest. I'd rather they include one that's shaped like a long L instead, but I have one laying around from one of my other 1911s, so it's not that big of a deal. Overall, I'm very happy with this kit and 17lb spring. I'm probably going to buy 2 more for my other 1911s because of the long service life of the spring and because it makes field stripping in my preferred way much easier. Part quality is top notch as expected of WC.

The fit was perfect, so perfect that I thought it was made for it. Was able to use the stock flat wire spring from Sig Sauer. Real tight tolerance, and easy installation.
Ordered this item along with a flat-wire spring for my 9mm 5" 1911. Fit and finish is top notch like everything else Wilson Combat.

|Flatwire Full Length Guide Rod Perfection||10/3/2017|
Ive used a few different types of flatwire guide rods and this one is the best. My favorite feature is the raised portion or step if you will at the base of the guide rod. This allows for the shok buff to snap into place so it doesnt move around during firing, providing further reliabily in the recoil spring assembly. These are the best! Furthermore, cycling is very smooth and consistent with the full length guide rod.

I got this kit for my 1911 mostly to get rid of the 2 piece guide rod that needed a hex key to remove. When I researched these I saw nothing but amazing reviews on the flat wire kit, So I had to try it! I installed it on my 1911 this morning and I must say this is one awesome kit! Dropped in with no problems, perfect fit and the action in the slide feels so smooth!!! I am amazed at the difference, just pulling the slide back I could tell it was much MUCH better! Also super easy to take the pistol apart now. Very happy with this! I also got the #17 flatwire spring to go with it. All the parts are super smooth, just as you would expect from top tier parts from Wilson Combat. Next up sights and maybe a one piece bullet proof magwell :

Installed this on my SA MC operator to replace the GI style setup. Much smoother recoil vs stock. A note, I did have to shorten the plug length on the internal side as springfield had a stop built into the front of the slide. Used a basic pipe cutter and dropped right in. Great kit, thanks Wilson!

I bought this along with the flat-wire spring as an upgrade for my Ruger SR1911. Immediately noticed how much smoother it is compared to the GI style guide rod. I have the Bulletproof magwell installed as well, and it brought more weight to the front end, which balanced it out. Great piece of kit if youre looking to upgrade your 1911

This guide rod and the flat wire spring are a match made in haven. Had to file the barrel bushing do to the Wilson Multi-Comp Bushing Compensator. Noticed the smoothness of the slight and recoil immediately
