Match Grade Barrel, 7.62x40 WT, Tactical Lightweight, 16", 1-12 Twist, Stainless
Nearly two decades of building the finest custom tactical AR-15 rifles have given us the insight to develop a comprehensive line of stainless steel, match grade barrels that offer superior accuracy, reliability and longevity for your next custom AR rifle project.
All Wilson Combat Match Grade AR-15 barrels are precisely crafted of the finest American-made 416R rifle rated steel on computer controlled equipment to our exacting list of technical specifications. These proven barrels feature a hand-polished bore and feedramps and then complete a rigorous final inspection process that ensures your new barrel will meet your most demanding expectations. All barrels feature crisp CNC markings, precision muzzle crown and a chamber and gas port optimized for reliability.
The 7.62x40 WT was developed by Wilson Combat to a reliable .30 caliber solution for the AR platform with enhanced power, range and accuracy over other .30 caliber AR chamberings. It uses a standard bolt and a slightly modified, standard magazine.
Designed for tactical/defense applications as well as hunting for medium sized game such as deer and feral hogs. The 7.62x40 WT has very useful tactical applications with soft point and hollow point bullets providing reliable terminal performance on soft tissue while the Barnes TTSX will easily penetrate tough barriers. For hunting the 7.62x40 WT vastly out performs the 5.56 and is on par with the 6.8SPC at ranges out to 175-200 yards. The very mild recoil of the 7.62x40 WT also makes it ideal for female and younger shooters as well as anyone that’s recoil sensitive.
The 7.62x40 WT is based on the inexpensive and readily available 5.56x45 NATO cartridge case. The 5.56 case is shortened to 1.560” and then re-sized (single operation) in a standard 7.62x40 WT sizing die which results in a formed 7.62x40 WT case with a finished overall case length of 1.565”. The cartridge is designed for 110-150gr .308” diameter bullets loaded to supersonic velocities, but if chambered in a 1-8 twist barrel is also suitable for heavy bullet subsonic use also. An adjustable gas block is typically not required when switching from supersonic to subsonic. Loaded ammunition, components and modified magazines are available from Wilson Combat.

||Absolutley Match Grade
|My background is retired US Marine and former bench rest competition shooter. This is my second barrel from Wilson Combat in 7.62x40WT.
I ordered this 16 lightweight and assembled a carbine using a 9 UTG Slim Free float hand guard to enhance consistency. I proceeded to the rifle range with my precision reloads of Hornady 110 gr. vmax and 110gr S.P, over 25.7 gr.of Accurate Arms 1680 published reloading data from Barnes As I stated I have many years of practice, I was shoot from a stable concrete bench using sandbags to get a rock solid rifle.
I used a Primary Arms 1 x 6 scope @ 6x because my eyes are 59 years old. After sighting in I shot the following groups on a single sight in target. .862 5 shots ,.613 5 shots , .875 3 shots .817 5 shots .969 4 shots .804 5 shots .718 4 shots .657 3 shots Average velocity for the day was 2527 FPS. |I put this barrel on a flat top carbine with a 1.5-4.5 power scope. After boresighting, I fired two shots at 100 yds. The 110 gr v-max with AA1680 load printed both shots several inches high and right, with both holes touching. I moved the scope over and fired 5 more rounds. All in the x-ring on a 600 yd MR target reduced for 100 yds--all touching each other. The five rounds fed from a 20 rd. GI mag just fine. Ive been smoking varmints with it all summer. Mags work fine with no modifications.----Winner!|
